The Key West Theater A New Key West Premier Venue
Happy March ya'll! It sure is nice to feel the warm weather coming back, but that's what I wrote yesterday. Crap! Cold again! You tourists are probably rolling you're eyes! ;-)This month I am featuring both a performing arts venue in Key West called
The Key West Theater and some of the artists involved in a show there Sunday March 20th. What thrills me about The Key West Theater is local original artists, in all the arts, whether visual, musical, theatrical, cinematic, literary, physical, or philosophical, can create, explore and perform their art in a 250 seat theater that is pure elegance with its' recent renovation. Notice I said local original artists? This is key as this theater is the first venue I have ever seen in the Keys whose mission is to recognize and showcase local talent and their original creations. This beautiful stage brings local artists of all mediums to a whole new level in my opinion. In the music realm of the theater, Nick Norman has created The Sunday Ramble that showcases local songwriters. On March 20th
Shastina Chiles,
Leah Orlikowski, Karri Daley and myself, Adrienne Z, are the feature songwriters. The event, hosted by
Claire Finley and
Robyn Whitehead, has the now famous Key West "Ramble Band" with some of the best players Key West has to offer: the hot and smiling bass playe
r Claire Finley, Daryl Brooke, Ericson Holt, Jeff Clark, James Whitehead, Joey Marchiano and Randy Morrow. Kudos and a deep warm and huge appreciation shout out to Tap Johnson, owner and appreciator of originality, who had a vision and created this performing arts center to showcase the talent that exists here in the Keys. I've been wanting a place like this in the Keys since I first landed on this rocky soil in the '90's.. ;-) Here is some info. on the songwriters featured in The Ramble March 20th. Becoming the youngest musician to have their own gig at Margaritaville in Key West, Shastina Chiles, now 16, is an active songwriter. She opened for Deanna Carter at the Key West Theater last November. Leah Orlikowski has a voice reminiscent of a cigarette free Janis/Alanis/Tori Amos Hybrid, She's self taught and has been performing and writing her own music since she came to the Keys. Karri Daley began playing coffee houses and local bars in 2002 and was then hired to play with a 10-piece band by her mentor, drummer Clyde Stubblefield in 2006. Myself, Adrienne Z, I have some new news I am happy to report.
My song Blue Day was picked up by film director John Stimpson and is in the Lifetime movie "The Wrong Car" that premiered Jan 17th this year. I am also one of the Keys performers featured in Volume 2 of the Ralph De Palma book, "The Soul of Key West". This fabulous new venue and this show will sell out like all the rest.
